Niederlauer. At this year's Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf (September 4–13, 2020), Megasat, one of the leading manufacturers of satellite technology and accessories in Germany and Europe, will present the next generation of its satellite antenna models. A technical highlight: The control units feature a Bluetooth module, allowing the devices to be connected and controlled via the user's smartphone or tablet. "We've repeatedly received requests from campers to equip the control units with a remote control, as many people store the devices out of sight in their vehicles. Since almost everyone now owns a smartphone or tablet, it made sense to enable remote control via a Bluetooth interface," explains Harald Langer, Head of Camping Sales at Megasat.
In the future, campers will be able to align their antenna to the desired satellite using their smartphone or tablet. Megasat has developed an app for iOS and Android for this purpose. Not only is the antenna controlled by the app, but firmware updates can also be easily installed via it. While this previously required a computer and a USB stick, in the future, a command via the app will suffice.
Initially, four antenna models will receive the new control units with BluetoothÒ module: the Campingman Kompakt 3, the Caravanman Kompakt 3 (both also as a twin version for two participants), the Campingman Portable 3 and the Traveller-Man 3. In addition, there are further innovations: The Campingman Kompakt 3 has a larger antenna dish for improved reception quality. The models Caravanman Kompakt 3 and Traveller-Man 3, Megasat has also modified the base plate design, so a new mobile kit will be available for these antennas. This will allow both fixed vehicle mounting and mobile use for both antennas in the future.
The new antennas will be launched on the market in January 2021; Megasat has not yet announced prices.
