Campingman Portable Eco from Megasat requires neither power cable nor control unit
Niederlauer. It's a premiere at this year's Caravan Salon: Megasat is presenting the Campingman Portable Eco, the first satellite antenna that operates without a separate power source. This makes the new device an energy saver that doesn't put additional strain on the vehicle battery. The Campingman Portable Eco once again underscores the innovative strength of the company based in Niederlauer, Franconia.
"We wanted to develop an antenna that is extremely easy to use while keeping power consumption in the vehicle as low as possible. We've perfectly implemented these features in the Campingman Portable Eco," explains Sven Melzer, founder and managing director of Megasat Werke GmbH. Melzer insisted on personally testing the features, reception performance, and quality of the new device on a test drive to the southern tip of Italy.
Easy to use, automatic alignment
The innovative antenna is extremely easy to use. Since Megasat also dispenses with a separate control unit, simply connecting the coaxial cable to the receiver or TV is all that's needed. Power is also supplied via this connection. As soon as the TV or receiver is turned on, the Campingman Portable Eco automatically begins aligning to the factory-programmed Astra 1 satellite. The search takes a maximum of two minutes, after which the viewing pleasure can begin. Another practical feature: If there are future transponder changes on the satellite, no transponder updates are required for the antenna.
Another practical feature of the system is the flexibility in choosing its location. Thanks to its mobile and compact design, the 4,2 kg Campingman Portable Eco, thanks to its carrying handle, can be easily positioned wherever there is a clear view of the satellite and the best reception. This is particularly useful for locations under trees that prevent direct satellite tracking. And to prevent the device from accidentally getting lost, it can be secured with a robust metal eyelet. An elegant plastic cover protects the antenna from external damage and the effects of the weather. The Campingman Portable Eco, suitable for one participant, will be available from the fourth quarter of 2018 and costs 799 euros.
